Clinical Islet Transplantation
The Nordic Network is active in a number of clinical protocols, among them standard islet transplantation to patients previously transplanted with a kidney. Uppsala also has the distinction of being a part of the Clinical Islet Transplantation Consortium, a National Institutes of Health funded program aiming to identify optimized protocols for islet transplantation success. About 25-40 transplants are performed each year with islets isolated in Uppsala.
